Tape-in extensions typically last six to eight weeks before the natural grow-out moves the bond away from the scalp enough to require repositioning or removal. The hair itself — if it’s good quality and well cared for — can often be reused for a second set after removal and retaping.

For daily care: use sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, avoid applying conditioner directly to the tape bonds, brush gently from the ends upward rather than pulling from the root, and sleep with your hair loosely braided or in a low ponytail to prevent tangling. The main alternatives are clip-ins, bonded (keratin-tip) extensions and weft extensions. Clip-ins are temporary — easy to apply at home but require daily removal, sit bulky at the root and are impractical for swimming or sleeping in. Keratin-tip (bonded) extensions use a small heat-fused bond at the root which can be more discreet for very fine hair but involves heat close to the scalp and is harder to remove. Weft extensions are sewn onto braided cornrows and work well for thicker hair types.
